I am looking into buying an 8gb iPod Touch.

How are they?

Is there an extra fee for Internet or anything?

Thanks.

No extra fees... (once you add 3rd party apps / jailbreak it) It is the most amazing device I have ever used..

True. It's an absolutely useless device until you get jailbreak on it. The only time you can connect to the internet is when there is a wireless network around. And for that I have my MacbookPro when I have a wireless connection.

My dad bought an 8G Touch and gave it to me because he had no use for it. I'm now loading up the apps and he wants it back :p

Oh wow.

What can I do?

Can jail breaking it brick it in anyway?

It was this, or the AppleTV.

Thanks.

Stock, unjailbroke it is a beautiful ipod. The screen is great, the calendar and address book can be updated on the device. The zoom feature in safari and the photos makes peoples eye pop right out of their head (no kidding). For my liking the 3rd party apps did not offer any additional usefulness.

I do have some complaints though,

1. I want the full functionality of ical, meaning todos and multi calendars
2. WiFi sync library
3. Wifi itunes to subscribe and update podcasts.
4. I would love circusponies notebook sync and update.

Well, I already have a working Zune. But what can I do with the iPod Touch, I may go to the Apple Store tomorrow, and check it out.

What can I do with it Jailbreaked.

Thanks.

A shorter list is what you can't do with it jailbroken:

Make calls.
Take photos.

Remember, it is a unix operating system with an Apple interface and multi-touch screen. When Steve said "It's running OSX" he was not kidding. I installed a web server and php, AFP, it runs sFTP and SSH... you can install LOTS of programs that do all kinds of cool and/or useful things. The list is too large to even tell you!

Giulio is right (finally!!!) the list of what you can not do is far shorter than what you can do... which is practically limitless.

I was looking at it in the store today, seemed fun.

Didn't notice a stylus holder, but I am sure if I get a case, it will have one.

And is it possible to brick or break it in any way, when jailbreaking it?

Will an upgraded version be on its way soon?

Anything interesting coming out by Apple in January?

Does it seem silly to get one, when I have a working 30gb Zune, and a MacBook?

Thanks.

no stylus with the ipod touch or iphone, its very sensitive to your fingers so you don't need it!

Ya, You don't need a stylus with the iPhone or Touch. The type of sensor screen that is in it is for your finger tips. A stylus or almost anything else wont work with it.

I think it requires heat + pressure. If you have a long sleeve shirt, try to use it with your sleeve between the screen and your finger - it wont work! It's a good way to avoid accidental clicks when not in use.
