Is there a way to disable "DASHBOARD"?

I understand that if I go to the blue Apple
on top of Safari desktop and click on it>
then choose system preferences/espose>
and then add to a menu that comes up. A
message claims you can use one "F key"
to hide Dashboard. Only how do you pro-
gram the "F key" to do this.
What happens now is that when I am on
Safari....and click on a URL or a spot on
the screen.....the "DASHBOARD" pops up!

Pressing down on the "CONTROL" key helps
to hold back the Dashboard as it asks if you
want to engage the item with a new screen
but it would be cooler if I could toggle the
dashboard "ON" or "OFF" with say a "F5"
key. I have a new 20" iMAC (Desktop unit) with Leopard v 10.5

Thanks for any help,

Are you pressing the mouse ball when you click? Because (by default) that will certainly trigger Dashboard.

If that's the case, you can either 1. move your finger, or 2. Deactivate the mouse ball (in the Keyboard & Mouse pane of System Preferences.)

Thanks for the reply, but no I am not pushing the mouse ball when
I click. Seems like choosing the "control"key works best as it does
seem to hold the DASHBOARD back a little bit in a toggle-like action.
