Desktop files won't obey me!!

Every time I try to add a file or folder to my desktop, it goes into the extreme upper left hand corner where I can't do anything with it. If I try really hard, I can grab it, but it won't stay where I drop it. It goes right back up there.

I've tried everything to fix this, changing "arrange by", etc, but it won't stop. What is going on and how do I fix it?

Also, I recently made a guest account and deleted it, but I still have to type in my password when I turn on my MBP. Is there any way to get rid of the password requirement so it'll just start up like it used to?

right click on desktop, show view options.

turn off "snap to grid" and arrange by name, or whatnot.

I struggle with your first issue everyday. Many times, icons aren't clickable until I open finder and click them there. Then when I click once to select an icon, it exchanges place with another. Have found no way to fix this but seems like a bug.

System Preferences - Accounts

Click on your Desktop - you should now have Finder on the menu bar - go to View, then Show View Options at the bottom.

You'll now have a dialog box called Desktop. At the bottom of that, change Arrange By: to None

Strangely enough, turning on snap to grid solved the problem. I usually have 0 items on my desktop anyway, but for the few times I do, this was getting annoying.
