• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have an HD receiver..satellite...and I am wanting to archive a few of the shows I recorded.

Can I do this with my Macbook?

I have EyeTV but I know this will not work.....at least I don't think it will. I am not even sure HD>DVD is possible.

Well if you import the video into iMovie, you can then burn it onto a DVD from there... What format does this EyeTV record in?

HD -> DVD video is not possible, you will need a blu ray recorder or the other one, standard DVD videos will not do high def

With DVD Studio Pro, you can create hi-def HD-DVD content to a regular DVD. I've gotten that far, it plays via DVD Player, but I haven't got a player to test it in.

See, my eyetv only has the regular video/audio hookups (Yello-video, red/white-audio)

I know there is a way to record HD to DVD b/c I have some concerts from a site I get on that were done....so no blu-ray recorder is needed...haven't even heard of that.

My main question is how can I import the HD into my Macbook.....

I reread your first post. It sounds to me like you have an HD PVR where your recorded HD content is residing. If so, then this is a two part question; how do you get the content off of the box onto your computer, and then what are the options of placing it onto a DVD.

So for the first question, people will need to know the exact model of your PVR. Google the model number with words such as copy or archive. I thought some of these boxes had a firewire, USB, or ethernet connection so computers could talk to the drive.

If you can get the content on to your computer, you'll likely have to convert the content to something friendlier codec.

Yes, that is what I have....Hughes HR-10250 satellite receiver and a Macbook. Sorry if that wasn't clear. So I am trying to archive some of the HD things on my PVR.
