The battery health on my Macbook is showing 61%.

Is this number alarming?

Is their a way to improve battery health?

At what point should I start shopping for another battery?

Thanks,

Have you tried calibrating it a few times? Charge it fully, then run it down to nothing, and charge it up fully again. Do that a few times in a row.

How old is it, BTW? How many cycles?

I believe Apple says the battery is good for around 300 charges and after that will loose performance quickly.

Mine has 180 cycles and it's at 86%. It's about nine months old. I regularly charge it and cycle it down to sleep.

Well, I let the battery go down to sleep. Charged up to 100%. Did this 3 times. My battery health shows 87% now. :)

This even with 351 cycles.

I think that the battery is very sensitive now. Must stay calibrated all the time.

I use the iStat Pro widget. Thanks battery info, I will unplug my machine and let it run down.

5 months MBP 17" (2.4 Ghz)
212 Cycles, and 94-97% battery health all the time.
Or, Full charge capacity (mAh): 6119 :)

What do you guys think, as Apple says that after 300 cycles the health goes down, should I keep it with AC charger more time?

Yes, compared to what I have and know about the batteries, it is bad. I have thirty more cycles, on a 5 months MBP, and I am currently 97% healthy.

You should try to recalibrate it.

You can get more accurate information about your battery under System Profiler. I don't know if this is true, but I've read that the iStat widget is unreliable.
