correct me if i'm wrong, but.......

aren't you able to upgrade from 10.2.8 to 10.5 without jumping through other OS loopholes? When i install the panther disc it says that it does not recognize 10.4 or higher. What gives?

???
I assume you currently have 10.2.8 on your machine?
Are you trying to upgrade to Leopard 10.5 or Panther 10.3?

sorry. leopard. it's been a while since i've had my G4 connected to the internet. i assume that when i do connect it....

it will automatically look for updates for free. after updating, can i then use my leopard disc to upgrade even further. is this correct?

What speed is your G4 processor(s)? If it's < 867MHz, Leopard is not compatible with your computer. This could be the problem.

The previous OS won't matter, it's getting wiped out (this is true as long as you're upgrading to an OS higher than your system came with)

Where did the disk come from? Did you buy the Leopard DVD or is it from another computer? Make sure you boot from DVD as well by holding down C at startup.

Also, how much memory do you currently have?
