• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi, I am asking about the best format to upload a video to YouTube, using iMovie for converting. I uploaded one in .mov format which seemed to work the best, but the file sizes are insane, for a 5 minute movie I made, the size was 1GB, and YouTube has a size limit. So what are the best alternatives?

Need more info than "converted with iMovie." I guess there are more options for exporting with FCP but you can see if you are converting a Apple Intermediate Codec, any HD format, JPEG motion, MPEG, etc.

Export as a quicktime movie, using the H264 codec at a size of 320x240 and restrict the bitrate to anywhere between 600 and 2000 (depending on length of video in mins)

The H264 codec seems to be the best according to what I've heard. I encoded my movie in AppleTV (m4v) MPEG4 (MP4) and straight to Quicktime (MOV) the M4V looked the best on YouTube, but the MOV was better quality, just the file size was huge.

TBH its going on Youtube. You shouldn't be concerned of the quality for anything Youtube worthy unless it dampens the overall quality of you clip.
