Ok..... I'm having problems trying to get my email.

I go through a broadband connection (cable) and my port settings are set at 25 which is what I'm assuming is the right port to send and receive email... But I can't send or receive... it says "can't connect on port 110"... when I check the port settings it says 25. Where is the 110 coming from?

I know nothing about networks and ports and where to go to find this annoying issue...

Can anyone help?

I can't call tech support because my f'n phone is on Vonage! so it's telling me "Your vonage phone is not connected to the internet, please check that you're service is up"......

Help?

Port 25 = SMTP port to send e-mail (typically)
Port 110 = POP3 port to receive e-mail (typically)

Happening again! I don't know if it's my ISP or not..... trying to send an email...... Port is set at 25..... error saying can't connect on port 110

Also.... I have a .mac account... there's no way to bypass my ISP and use the .mac ...... probably not? Unless I use the web based email...

grrrrrr

Are you trying to set up .mac email on Mail.app in OS X?

Or are you trying to set up your ISP email (Comcast, Cox, Local cable company, etc) in Mail.app?

Or are you trying to set up Gmail, hotmail, AOL, yahoo, etc mail in the Mail.app?

My email has been set up for over a year.... just acting up I think.

I have my ISP email and a .mac account.

In my server settings it asks which outgoing server I want to use. Either my isp or smtp.mac one..... it's usually set on my isp...

That's why I was curious if the .mac one could be used, but I"m guessing when I send email it still needs to go through my isp.

I think my isp is just being glitchy. because now it's working again...
