• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I'm going to put together a DVD in iDVD with full and widescreen views of a photo slideshow. I would also, like as a special feature on the disc, like to have a photo viewer on the DVD, so that they can manually go through all the images i took, not just the ones that i put into the slideshow itself. Can either iDVD or iMovie do this? I'm a newbie when it comes to these 2 programs. When i did this before, i used Adobe Encore DVD to make the DVD, and i don't have that for Mac yet, but i was told both programs are pretty powerful, so i thought i'd try them out. Any suggestions?

There's an option in iDVD to store the original images in with the final DVD. I'd suggest you create another slideshow with all the pictures that you want on the DVD (not the slideshow) and then somehow hide the slideshow link in the DVD menu. That way you will have one slideshow for people to view with DVD menu. And another slideshow, with the link hidden, just so that the folder with images is stored on the DVD.

Am I getting through? I might have explained it wrong...

See.

- While making a DVD using iDVD, you make two slideshows.
1) The slideshow you want people to watch on their TV screen when using a standalone DVD player
2) A slideshow with all the pictures that you want people to see using say Windows Explorer on their computer. These will be full resolution files.

- While editing the DVD menu, make the 1st slideshow link visible so people can click it and watch the slideshow on the TV
- Make the link to the 2nd slideshow very difficult to read (for instance, you could put a font that matches the background, or don't keep name too long.)

Now, in iDVD preferences, under the slideshow tab, there is an option, "Add original images to disk". Check that option so that your original files are added to disk.

There won't be a guide on apple for this cause it is more of a home cooked method...

Oh, alright thanks! I'll give it a shot. I have another, though off topic to what i had originally asked. In Encore DVd i was able to put in an Intro movie before the menus showed up, can i do that in iDVD?

Yes you can. There is a 'structure' view in iDVD (it's the button with three boxes connected). In that you will see the tree of events. There is a box with something like "Drag content here to play before menu" or something. It might be different, but that should be it.
