I just ordered my copy of OS X 10.5, and coming from windows, when you install the operating system, you need to download the drivers for video cards, and sound cards and such. Would any of you happen to know if these drivers are bundled into the operating system, or if they are not, where i can down load them.

this is for a Macbook, 2.0 ghz C2D. I want to do a fresh install, not an upgrade.
Thanks.

The reason individual drivers are not needed is because of the small amount of hardware actually supported. There are only so many video cards available across the entire Apple lineup, which makes it much easier to include all of the drivers (or daemons depending on what you want to call 'em)

In Windows, you get a pretty good pool of drivers to choose from, but since anyone can make hardware they have to provide their own drivers to work with the OS if it isn't included.

Neither way is really better than the other, just personal preference.

@krby: While that is true what you say, it still doesn't explain why one has to go hunting for drivers even after buying a laptop from Lenovo. They know what hardware they are providing, but still, no drivers.

as far as Pc's go, HP has all the drivers on their website for every computer they sell. Its really nice if you ever need them. Just search the model computer you have from them and it gives you all the drivers that originally came with the computer.

Mac doesn't need it separately becoz it is meant to run only on apple hardware unlike windows/ linux.

But you still got to download them after installing Windows and such. With the Mac, most printers work out of the box (if you install the space hogging printer drivers that is :) ). Even wireless network cards, which don't even work in Windows sometimes with default drivers work just by plugging in your mac.

The fact of the matter is, by performing the default install of the Mac, you get a system ready to work. There's no more needed to do after pressing the Install button.
