Japanese TV is always pulling crazy pranks like that. I've never seen them do something to a gaijin, but it always made me pay more attention to my surroundings.

Candid Camera wishes they could do the things these guys do.

Hey Sgt Beavis, did you ever see the one with MMA fighter Bob Sapp versus two small Japanese guys – the two of them combined had to do whatever Bob Sapp did. Sapp is like 6’8”, 350 lbs, and he’s eating handfuls of raw meat, smashing watermelons with his forehead, just laughing at the two guys as they knock themselves out on the watermelon and whatnot. Not a hidden camera prank, but freakin’ hilarious. I’ll try to find a youtube link for it.

Its not that they are not sue happy, its very difficult to win lawsuits in Japan. They don't have juries there. Cases are tried before a panel of judges.

frivolous lawsuits get thrown out in an instant and lawyers that bring them can lose their license. In a case like this the judge will ask if you were hurt. If you say no, the case is dismissed. If you say yes, you have to provide proof.

Another thing is just how Japanese society behaves. If the pranksters on the TV show actually hurt someone, they would immediately go to that persons aid and take responsibility. Normally they will OFFER compensation in order to not be sued. Incidents where a member of the public is injured by someone elses maliciousness don't go over very well with the Japanese public.

Yeah, you would have been there before he got big. I saw his first professional PRIDE fight at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama-ken - remember that scene in Rocky (3?) when Hulk Hogan comes in, and it looks like they are carrying him, but really he's just like 3 feet taller than everyone? That's what it was like when Bob Sapp entered the arena...nobody had ever heard of him...then he proceeds to pummell this Japanese guy in 11 seconds. He became a huge TV personality and was K-1 champ for awhile.
