Is having a lot of inactive memory ok

memory and hard drive space are completely different

Because you have a ton of stuff open.
Inactive memory is memory that is not currently being used, but contains data from an open app. It is allocated memory that hasn't been accessed during last few moments and quite likely to be first used for being swapped/paged out if memory being demanded.

i dont have no mac's
basically it is being stored just in case you are going to need it again in the next few minutes....if you dont need it it wil get rid of it and use it for something else.

windows and osx have two very very different ways of managing ram

ok, im having the same problem and i have firefox, and transmission open along with tigers stuff, and i have 13mb of ram aviable, and when opening, minimizing, or closing apps, its real;y slow and choppy, i'v watched it for 15 mins now and it doesn;t release that ram.

i dont have no mac's
i used transmission for a while and it hogs ram...as do the rest of torrent apps
....your ram will be freed up once something else needs it actually
