Tick boxes in iTunes

I what are the ticks in the boxes that appear next to a songs name for.

I don’t notice any difference if the box is ticked or not.

if you click to shuffle it only plays the ticked songs, and on synching to ipod there is an option on the ipod tab to only sync checked items

Another use is when you are importing songs from a CD and don't want a certain song imported, just untick the box or several boxes and only the ticked box songs get imported.

It also works if you select repeat one or repeat all. It will only repeat the box(s) checked.
