• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I own DVDs with different region codes and I'd like to watch them on my Mac. I've heard of VLC player and that it enables you to watch DVDs from different regions - provided you've not yet assigned a region to your DVD drive, which I, unfortunately, have. Can I still use VLC player to watch my DVDs? Would you recommend that?

Don't know about this feature, but VLC is definitely a great player that I use a lot!

All of my DVD's are also from a single region, so I can't test it.
I have read multiple posts that say it works.
VLC can be downloaded, installed and tested in under 5 minutes (unless your on dial up).
And definitely in less time than it takes waiting for multiple responses and then testing it out.

VLC works as a multi region player DESPITE your drive being assigned as far as I know, because DVD player won't play my region 1 discs on my iBook, but VLC will play anything I throw at it.
It's a great program.
