I recommend PithHelmet which is totally free and allows you to add your own filters. I added filters to block flash content from a couple of sites which had particularly annoying and distracting embedded ads. It will make web browsing pleasant again like it was in 1995.

Hmm... Guys, Safari has a built-in Pop-up blocker.

Click on the Safari next to the Apple in the menu bar, and it's like the forth item down. This will block any annoying auto open window or popup. Try that first before considering the alternatives.

hype.it, I think the original poster already hinted at this and was asking for alternatives to the built-in pop-up blocker. IMHO, pop-up blocking by itself is only a half measure, and most people who turn it on will not see a reduction in ad content when they browse. Again, I strongly recommend getting PithHelmet. It is extremely well implemented, easy to install, and makes web browsing 10x more pleasant.
