I have an old 400 MHz G4 powermac. It is the PCI version. There is no slot for an airport card and there appears to be no adaptor for it. The MAC support site indicates it is not compatible with the Airport card. I am running 10.4 OS. Is there any option for me to get wireless on this machine?

Yes.

You could go to any retailer and buy a USB wireless card. Essentially this would work assuming that the USB ports on your G4 are 2.0. I'm not sure if they are.

Be sure when you buy a USB wireless card that you buy something that software/hardware compatible with OS X.
