I just bought a 500g SimpleTech external drive at Circuit City for 129.95.
A few questions. I partitioned it as MAC OS Extended (Journaled). I backed up iTunes and iPhoto without any trouble. I wanted to use a separate partition for Time Machine, but I keep getting back up error messages (the backup volume could not be found). Not a huge deal as Time Machine sounds buggy and I'm not as worried about backing up system stuff as I am about music/videos and pictures, but any idea why?
The biggest questions is that if I want to back up iTunes and photos from iPhoto for potential future use on an OS other than Mac, will I be unable to retrieve the data off of a Mac OS Extended formated drive if I'm using a Windows OS?
What if I formated the external drive as FAT? Would I then be able to retrieve the data using Windows?
