I'd like to get Apache/PHP running.

I've gone to System Prefs... Sharing...Personal Web Sharing. It does not start.
I thought Apache was pre-installed.

I'm a noob as far as the Terminal and command-line stuff is concerned.

Any thoughts? Do I have to install from the OS disk or should I just go out and try to install the latest version?

Much appreciated.

Apache should be pre installed on OS X

It works for me (tiger) but you could try a re-install - but back-up first

Problem solved.
I did not have all of the frameworks required by PHP5 and so Apache wouldn't start.
