Charger Question

Just had a quick question regarding the way the iBook G4 handles the power adapter. If it is left plugged in will it kill the battery or will the mac switch to direct power and divert the battery. Reason I ask is my fiance has a nasty habit of leaving the laptops plugged in and our old dell has gone through 2 batteries so far. Thanks in advance, I searched but couldn't find anything regarding this question.

From my 19 years of apple laptop experience, leaving your laptop plugged in with the battery is perfectly fine. Some computers don't perform very well if it's plugged in without the battery. Basically, don't worry about.

iBooks, like all laptops, don't "overcharge" their batteries. They charge until they're full, then they stop. I don't know where people get the idea that they can "kill" a battery this way.

Sounds like you're the one who's killing batteries, if you're not plugging them in. Batteries have a limited number of cycles; the more often you run them down, the sooner they die.

Just like the battery in your car, or digital camera, or any other rechargeable battery.

Cool thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. The reason why it seems like it was "overcharged" was that is was always plugged in and never off the plug but still died, twice even. Thanks for the informative post though never knew that about batteries.
