Do i need an anti virus app. for my macbook to surf onkline?

i thought part of the beauty with macs is that it is almost virus free? Anyway what anti viral software should i get if not, is it the same as windows, things like kapersky and mcafee etc?

oh and how do i turn on my fire wall ?

Your firewall is in the Security Prefs Pane.

You don't need an AV app as there are no viruses for the Mac. There is a (only one) Trojan out there, but you would have to be stupid to get hit by it.

If you really want an AV app, ClamX AV is probably the best but it only scans for Windows viruses to keep you from passing them on to your PC using acquaintances.

In my opinion there is no need to get anti virus for Mac, there very few viruses for Mac. Norton makes an anti virus for Mac as do Sophos. You can access some basic settings to the firewall in system preferences, security and then click the firewall tab. I'm not sure if you can totally disable the firewall.
