Wordperfect convert to word for mac

Hi: New to forum. Looks interesting.
I just purchased an iMac for home use (I use 11 eMacs in my high school classroom). It arrives this week.
I want to be able to open and work on my older Wordperfect documents from my soon to be trashed home PC. They are now on a USB drive.
I have Office 2004 Student and Teacher Edition for Mac waiting on my shiny new iMac. Can I open and work on wordperfect docs in word on the iMac. A customer svc rep at Maclink Plus 16 said I may not have to use a conversion app, that word for mac should open them automatically. Any thoughts?

I'd be interested in this too. Right now I use Word Perfect in Parallels/Windows XP, save the WP doc as a Word.doc then pull it to Mac:Word or Pages to open it, but a conversion program would be easier.

Word won't, but NeoOffice will.
