So I got the macbook from a friend. so its pretty much a hand-me-down (pretty nice huh?) I have my own user account and there seems to be no other user accounts but I can't change the computer name. Anyway I can change it?

you can change the name in System Preferences>Sharing. the very first tab at the top will have the computer's name and you can change it there. if you are trying to rename the hdd, click the hdd icon on the desktop and the press return. you then can change the name. it will ask for the admin user log in and password.

it kind of sounds like you want to change the admin username. which is very dangerous without losing all of your files, and you need to reinstall to do.
