After upgrading to leopard I can no longer print to my HP LaserJet 1012.

Yes, it's plugged in. And it's turned on. :D

I can add it to my printer list and all seems fine. But when I print it does not work.

When it's time to print, the error log states...
E [12/Nov/2007:10:10:59 -0500] [Job 173] fatal: Opening Printer Connection Failed: Unable to open the printer connection. Please check your printer connections and check for printer errors.
E [12/Nov/2007:10:11:00 -0500] PID 3806 (/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr) stopped with status 203!
I [12/Nov/2007:10:11:00 -0500] Hint: Try setting the LogLevel to "debug" to find out more.
E [12/Nov/2007:10:11:00 -0500] [Job 173] Job stopped due to filter errors.

And these are the erros when I add the printer to the list:

Kinda odd... It shows up in the list instantly when I add the printer.

HP's utility does not see it at all though...

HP's site is no help. Their latest driver was from 2005. :Shouting:

Any ideas??

Thanks in advance,
Jules

HP's "Ready for Leopard" campaign pdf states:

Support
Ready for Leopard – drivers for HP peripherals built into Mac OS 10.5

Driver updates

HP drivers will be available via Apple Software updates. Please note that the Apple software update process for HP drivers only applies to USB connected printers.
http://h41140.www4.hp.com/mac_connect/pdf/Mac_OS_launch_special.pdf
There were no Apple Software Updates for it.

This stinks... I hope I am not stuck with a $100 desk decoration.
Maybe I'll be able to figure this out and post a solution for others!

Do you have to use that HP Print Utility for the 1012 to work?

I've never used the HP printer utility before. But since the hp driver does the work, and the hp utility does not see a printer... me thinks this situation not so good.

I got it working...

Fixed It!!

1) Reset the printing system - right click on the printer to do it.

2) Click the + to add a new printer. In this window select your printer in the top. Then Print Using: 'Select a driver to use...". Enter "hp gimp" to filter the list of drivers. Select the closest match. I went with "HP DeskJet 1100C"

Now... I'm not in the office of that mac and printer. So I don't actually know 100% if it worked. But the log said it did:
I [12/Nov/2007:13:56:21 -0500] [Job 2] Adding start banner page "none".
I [12/Nov/2007:13:56:21 -0500] [Job 2] Adding job file of type application/pdf.
I [12/Nov/2007:13:56:21 -0500] [Job 2] Adding end banner page "none".
I [12/Nov/2007:13:56:21 -0500] [Job 2] Queued on "HP_LaserJet_1012" by "Jules".
I [12/Nov/2007:13:56:21 -0500] [Job 2] Started filter /usr/libexec/cups/filter/cgpdftoraster (PID 4841)
I [12/Nov/2007:13:56:21 -0500] [Job 2] Started filter /usr/libexec/cups/filter/rastertogimpprint.5.0 (PID 4842)
I [12/Nov/2007:13:56:21 -0500] [Job 2] Started backend /usr/libexec/cups/backend/usb (PID 4843)
I [12/Nov/2007:13:56:25 -0500] [Job 2] Completed successfully.
And that is good enough for me until i get home. :D

Thank you, thank you. This is my first time of writing on anything like this but I had to say thanks. After I updated my Mac to OSX Snow Leopard my HPdeskjet would not print and I spent days trying to figure it out.
