In my dock in Leopard I dont have arrows under my apps to show whats open. Is there setting somewhere that I can enable this? or if not how can I see what apps are open?

The arrows have been replaced by a white(blue) dot (glow). A quick search would have shown this.

You change the blue indicator lights back to the triangles (or anything you'd like) by editing the indicator png files that are located in System>Library>CoreServices>Dock (show contents)>Contents>Resources. Then you just need to do a "killall Dock" in Terminal to see the changed graphics.
