G4 Imac Mouse and kernel panic/crashing problems

First up, hi all.

I have aG4 Imac, one of the first 15" ones. It's running 10.4.10.

My problems started with the mouse. Sometimes the cursor stops on the screen and jumps to another part. It might then decide to stop there, until I maybe remove the USB plug or something. I also have another keyboard and mouse and have tested these, it does just the same.

It quickly progressed from this to going to the 'screen of death' and asking me to restart.

I've tried resetting the PRAM and also ran disk utility and it works for maybe 45 minutes, maybe only 5. I've now put in a battery from another G4 I had, I know the battery is fairly new and unused because I swapped it trying to resolve crashing problems on that machine.

The mouse is still being a bit erratic so I think the problem has not been fixed just yet, although it's been switched on for about an hour or so with no other problems. I fear it is only a matter of time.

Any ideas what else this could be. I am off to America next Easter and buying a new machine there so don't want this one to pack up just yet

Any assistance much appreciated

I ran crash reporter and get this:
