According to http://tomkarpik.com/articles/massive-data-loss-bug-in-leopard/ this bug has been around since Panther and it doesn't matter what the type of destination (USB, network, firewire, etc) is.

Well if that's true, it's about time they fixed it. However it doesn't appear to be.

The issue is reproducible, but does not occur under the same conditions in OS X 10.4 Tiger or when the same files are moved in OS X 10.5 via the terminal.

Sometime this evening I am going to run some tests and see if I can get it to happen here. Going to run the same tests on Tiger. Will report back.
