I have a 15" 867 TiBook and the battery has been acting wierd lately. When it is charged it will last for a while but sometimes it just randomly dies when its not being used even though its fully charged. I checked it with coconut battey but the stats seemed odd. Is the battery on its way out?

I thought it was built in to the battery that it wouldn't overcharge?

You can't "overcharge" the battery. The Apple tech was unfortunately wrong.

Disregard what Coconut Battery says. While it can be correct sometimes, more often than not it is off (like most third party hardware monitors).

Instead, do this:

Go to "About This Mac" from the the Apple Menu
Click on the "More Info" button
Drill down on the "Hardware" listing in the sidebar
Select "Power"

The most accurate information on your battery will be listed there.
If it matches what Coconut Battery reads, then that monitor was accurate this time. Don't be surprised if the information is vastly different, though.

In any case, it might help to calibrate the battery.
