i loaded up Leopard last night, and in the process it over wrote everything and lost my "Free" copy of iLife '06 that came preloaded on my iMac (bought it about 4 months ago). it didn't come with a disk to reload iLife when i bought my mac, does this mean i lost the program for good and have to pay for iLife '08 now

i also lost all my files i had on my computer i.e. personal photos, school papers, programs i downloaded etc... is this normal? did i install it wrong?

There are 3 options when you install. Upgrade, Archive and Install, and Erase and Install.

I'm guessing you choose Erase and Install, in which case, you lost all your data unless you had a backup.

To get back iLife, put in the restore discs that came with your computer, and install it from there.

The gray discs that came with your computer are more than just Tiger discs, they are the restore discs, and hardware test discs.

Just choose the option to "install bundled software only".
