I purchased a used G4 PowerMac tower about a month ago which came loaded with 10.4 but no install disks. I began installing the 10.4.10 update and it crashed. It would not boot, instead went consistently to the panic screen, and so I didn't have much choice except to format the drive.
The computer came with a CD drive, not a DVD drive, so I installed and ran Ubuntu 7.04 on it until I could get a DVD drive. Now that I have a DVD drive, I have tried the following to no avail, and I have included all the system details:
PowerMac G4 1.07 GHz Single Core
Maxtor 120 GB HDD
1024 GB SDRAM (in 2x512MB sticks)
Came with: Sony CD-R/RW Drive Unit Model No. CRX140E, jumpers set to IDE-Master
I installed a: LiteON DVD Writer, Model No. LH-20A1H186C, jumpers set to IDE-Master
Boots Fedora 7 PPC install disk from DVD but doesn't seem to properly recognize the MacOS X 10.4.6 install disk that I have that came with my intel-based MacBook:
MacOS X 10.4.6 build: 8I2025
Instead displays the following:
with the "You need to restart your computer" dialogue in several different languages overtop.
I may be able to get my hands on a retail version of 10.4.x but need to know if this might solve the problem.
Help?
UPDATE: I think I have already had the question answered, the MacBook Install media can only be used with a MacBook, so I will get the 10.4 ADC disks I have around here somewhere and proceed.
