When I heard about that earlier today I thought it was cool and exiting, and was incredibly disappointed not to be the first person to get it.

Strange how OS X makes you think about malware :p

Although the particular trojan seems to appear in Pr0n sites, it is likely to spread into innocent looking sites. Therefore, if you didn't activate your built-in firewall, perhaps this is the high time for that (it might not help 100% but it is the fisrt step to secure your system). Just because you use a Mac and run a great OS doesn't mean you aint vulnerable to such attacks.

Speaking of which, where is the Firewall control in 10.5? It's not where it use to be.

Ok, that's a retarded place to put it. I don't like the lack of customization as far as ports are concerned too.

You can open ports via the terminal as shown here:

I love the way the 'advanced' tab, gives you about 2 extra boxes to tick as well. I am used to 'advanced' tabs basically allowing you to enter your own machine code... ;D

I use my router to create an effective firewall.

aye, a real step backwards for me. considering the flack it is getting, and with now OSX getting targeted more, hopefully they will get it sorted, sooner rather than later.

thankfully I am sat behind a router, and I also use Little Snitch to keep tabs of outgoing traffic, tells me what program is sending data out and to where, worth every penny/cent :)

on a side note, if you leave it on 'set access blah blah...' it will ask you for permission for incoming traffic. better than nothing right now I guess.

Nothing at all can happen unless you allow your system to download a file and give it permission to run. This has been talked about on OS News and the truth told.

Your FireWall won't help here (if it's any help at all...); you have to download and run it. It makes you do this by pretending to be another piece of software (an adult video decoder in this case... who would fall for that?!)... hence the name Trojan.

So much for the marketing line that there aren't any Mac viruses...

I guess I really will need to buy an antivirus afterall...

Even if you watch porn, you shouldn't need one. There are not NO viruses for Mac. There's about 5.

Yeah, well, this may be just the tip of the iceberg for the platform. I tend to think that as the iPhone (and by extension OS X) gains popularity, we'll see a lot more of these things in the coming years...

At this point in computing history, anyone who is fooled into installing any software because a web site says it needs it likely deserves what they get, irrespective of platform (Mac, Windows, Linux, whatever).
