battery or power adapter

When i plug adapter to charge battery, the battery meter will say it is calculating for sometimes up to 20 min then show it is charging. when it is plugged in the light to the adapter does not light up in any color. is it my battery or power adapter or something all together different?

he computer is close to a year old, i also did the proper calibration....
