is there a way to turn off all the pretty little animations macs have so that programs dont take 15mins to open and you can make the most of your ram? ==/

go to your dock preferences and turn off the animations for applications and the genie....helped me immensely when I had tiger...

You can also make sheets dis/appear instantly instead of animated...
In terminal, enter:
defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSWindowResizeTime .001

0.2 is the default btw. So change this to any speed you like. To see the change take effect, relaunch any program the uses sheets, such as textedit for the Save As sheet.
