OSx Tiger Finder Trouble

I've been having this problem for a couple of months. I tried to connect to an FTP using finder and failed. It wasn't a problem because I was able to connect via a different application, but the problem has been that a home folder has appeared in my finder window [underneath Desktop/Apps/Documents/Movies/..etc] additionally, unrelated to the original problem a .jpg that I accidently put in that same area is now there. I've tried to drag these unwanted icons into the trash and they have disappeared, but whenever i reopen the finder they reappear. Anybody know how I can get rid of these icons for good?
