Is it possible to rename the home directory without any issues popping up in the future?

Do not rename your Home Directory....doing so will cause all preferences to be lost and it will just create a new Home directory which it will use instead of the renamed one

Question...

Why would you want to rename the HOME directory?

I received my Mac second-hand so my home directory has my friend's name on it. I just wanted to make it a little more mine.

Create another user ID. Some thing to your liking. Log in to the new ID. Then copy all of the information you need from the old folder into your new folder. Once this is done and all is working fine. Then from the old ID and delete the old folder.
