Can I restore Tiger from a blue screen?

My leopard copy arrives tomorrow. I plan on doing a clean install. If I end up with the dreaded blue screen, Can I reinstall my Tiger OS from my backup drive using Super Duper? Another words, if I restart holding the option key, will I get the chance to boot to another drive? Thanks
