I went to the apple store to see 10.5 and get a free tshirt. I did so and when I went there I asked one of the sales people about the education discount. He said that it was a $69 discount that would make it half price. I checked today and the education discount is only $13. Whats up with that?

Sales guy didn't keep up with his info.
A 10% education discount sucks, and is what has kept me from buying Leopard already. I was much more willing to spend $69, which is what Tiger's Education Discount was.

I would have bought it also, but not for a 10% discount.

Is the education version of OS X any different than a regular retail version?

I just bought mine from Amazon for $109. Someone posted a site selling it for $99, after a $30 mail-in rebate. So if you don't mind waiting a while to get your discount back, that would be the way to go.

The bad thing about waiting around for Universities to get the discount is 1. they take a long time to get them in and 2. chances are they won't have it any cheaper than Apple.com. Since Universities didn't give a discount any lower than Apple did themselves, what's to make one think they would be able to this time?

My University has it for $70, well they had it. They had a limited supply and let people buy up to 5 copies each, must not have been too limited. Well needles to say, after 2 days they are sold out and I am waiting on an email to see if they are getting it back in stock for $70.

i got mine from my university too
the 5 purchase limit is similar to how you can only buy one wii from bestbuy if you came early to get it
its just so that you dont take em all to sell on craigslist
it may be illegal to resell them since you got it at discount but they have no way to know if you just come back 30 mins later and buy another...
