Macbook Pro touch pad lag

so I just got Leopard on my macbook pro, there were no issues whatsoever installing, but I have found one problem. I usually close my laptop when I'm done with it, but when I open it, the cursor/touch pad isn't smooth at all and lags, does anyone know how to fix this or if you can? I've gone into the system settings already and nothing works.
