It really depends on what you are doing. Here are some graphs of the differences.(Just remember, these are from Apple, so of course they are slightly exaggerated!)

And regarding your question about G5 Powerbooks.....Don't expect them until the 1H of 2005.

He is suggesting that you save your money for a possible future purchase of what ever the next version of the powermac is.

The performace difference between the dual 2.0 and the dual 2.5 isn't that big that it will have an enormous speed bumb. Unless you really need the extra power, just keep your money.
But hey, if you have too much money to spend and always want to have the newest top-of-the-line hardware, feel free and buy it ;)

Concerning the G6, that's still years to go before it will come (if it will).

By G6 all I wanted to indicate was a future purchase where the upgrade is worth it.

For what its worth from a new guy ... no unless you are doing some really serious cpu intensive stuff. Or like mentioned before, you have $$ burning a hole in your pocket. AND IF that is the case, look at upgrading your video card and monitor. :D

Dual 2.2GHz powered by AMD Opteron - *Sends G5 & 8Gb Ram to scrap heap* Yeah! finally switched BACK!
FYI! I'm not upgrading.... 2 Ghz Dual G5 with Max out memory is sufficient for me and 3D Animation... Only a fool would buy a new machine whenever there's a faster one!

A) It's just not worth it.
B) I would never buy a system that relies on a pump to keep going. Pumps have relatively short lives, and will produce a lot of problems down the road.

Expand your ram. The least expensive and most significant upgrade you can make to your system. Your current system couldn't be that old at this stage could it???
