Convert video file to mp3/sound file?

I Have some video files of which I want to extract the sound from. I thought I could do this in quicktime but can't. Is there any other simple way to extract the sound from a video?

Your Mac's Specs
imac 24" 2.8 ghz
In imovie right click the video and extract audio. Then right click audio track and copy then paste on desktop.
