I know this may sound silly but I have reason to believe my Belkin Wireless router is overheating. It has been constantly crashing and I noticed that the case was pretty warm. So I put a fan next to it and it hasn't crashed since. The firmware is as up to date as I can get it. Is there anyway to install a fan in such a small enclosure?

Where do you have it? Is it open to air?

Is it possible for it to stand on end?

Being warm is probably fine. How "hot" is it? Hot enough to cook on?

We should probably establish what router you are actually talking about. What router do you have?

Well I ran it for a while and got it up to 100 degrees which was from a probe placed underneath it while on the end table. It's a Belkin f5d9230-4

How long is a while? if its like 10 minutes then its hot, but if its 2 hours then its understandable.

THen I would have to say that its normal. My linksys gets like that especially in close quarters with my external HDD and the modem on the other side.

I do have the modem right next to it. Would that help just to move it?

It would only make a little difference if it was directly next to it like less than a half inch away but even that would make a miniscule temperature difference.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. Remember, routers are miniature computers that have processors just like any other computer. They can and do get warm.
