If the battery completely drains with a flash-based iPod, will everything be erased? This question will decide if I get a Nano or Classic.

nope :) i've had mine sit dead for months with nothing lost.

just like flash/thumb drives. no power is needed to hold all of the info.

The information will be retained. Flash memory is "non volatile". It doesn't need power to retain the information it holds - it only needs power to CHANGE the information it holds.
