Hi,
Could someone please assist.
I have a iBook G4 laptop. I have tried to connect an external monitor and a mouse but unfortunately it hasn't worked for me. I have followed the instructions from the apple website (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86286)
When I reached step 6 and closed my laptop lid and awoke the computer, the desktop screen flicked up on the external monitor for about 1/2 a second and then it shut down again and I could hear the laptop go back into sleep mode.

Please help.

regards,
Matt

It is not possible with an iBook. The iBook cannot safely operate while closed.

Notice that the article you linked to is for the PowerBook, MacBook, and MacBook Pro only.

Does this mean it IS possible to use a mouse and external monitor on the macbook?
