1st Gen iPod Problems

I have had my 1st Gen iPod for over a year and lately it doesn't really turn off when I hold down the Play/Pause button. It also skips a lot on random.

Is my iPod dying?

Yeah I have a 1st gen too but it works almost perfectly...aside form freezing and on certain songs it pauses at about 5 secs or so then keeps playing...kind of wierd
