hey
i am currently running OS X 10.3.9 and want to upgrade to 10.4.

my brothers mac came with 10.4, and i was wondering if it is possible for me to upgrade using the OS X disks that came with his computer, or do i have to actually go out and buy the OS X tiger 10.4 software?

You have to go and buy the software for both legal and technical reasons.

If your machine is up to it, you might want to hold of 2 weeks or so and buy Leopard. If you have a gig of RAM and 1ghz or faster processor, it might be a good option.

do you reckon there will be any teething problems with Leopard like there was with the transition of XP to Vista on windows?

Hopefully nothing like the extent of Vista, but it's fair to assume there could be initial teething troubes. From what I understand, all the 10.x upgrades have been pretty smooth and usually resulted in a more stable OS, rather than a less stable one.

Having said that, 10.4 is a great OS, and could suit your needs very well. What is the hardware you're using?

a G4 PPC mac mini....with a 1.25ghz processsor i think

If it was me, I'd spring for Leopard, just make sure you have a gig of RAM or better.

Should be the same as what Tiger goes for at the moment. All OS X versions have kept the same price.

Exactly - probably about $129, give or take.
