I know this may be a stupid question, but does anyone know how to become a moderator?

I'd suggest doing a search…we've answered this before. ;)

But the first rule of thumb is not to ask for it.

1) Pay schweb or other admin/mods a minimum amount of $4000

2) Declare that you will never work for anyone else but mac-forums

3) Sell your family so you will have no distractions in completing 1 & 2

failure to meet any one of these criteria can result in failure in application to be a moderator...

(apparantly you have to be uber nice and intelligent about macs as well! :p)

I'd explain the process, but profanity is not allowed here.

To become a mod you must:

1) Turn over you mac pro to me
2) There is no option 2.

In short, you have to be a REALLY helpful, an active poster, with kind and respectful post, have a good understanding of the forum rules and follow them at all times. Be known as a great member on the forum. I think that about covers it! :D

on top of what Ryan said, you also need to buy each active member a 8GB iPhone

easiest way... start your own forums

There you go! Works every time too! :D

If you really want to be a Mod here ask 20 times a day, Draw a graphic with all the mods names and include your handle as a Mod. :D

Schweb for one will know what I mean! :D

That's interesting.

I have noticed on other forums when someone clamours for 'Modship', and get it, they end up being an awful mod... I am sure it has something to do with wanting power - perhaps Stanley Milgram should be mandatory reading for any forums moderators.;D

Generally, I think a good candidate is:

- Someone who is helpful
- Someone who wishes to uphold the integrity of the forums, and demonstrates this
- Someone who generally tries to diffuse difficult situations, rather than take a side and add to it

Each member gets a straw. Then we measure. The member with the shortest straw receives the so-called "Moderator sentence".

This punishment mainly involves backbreaking manual labour for Schweb, reading lots of spam and spending most of your time online moving posts around the forums.

On the bright side you do manage to learn a lot of new profanity!

I think the answer is the same for all message boards across the Internet - the administrative team typically selects members who stand out from the crowd. People who are helpful, polite, knowledgeable, etc... Me personally, I've never seen someone "ask" to be a moderator and actually become one. :p

I asked schweb how to be a mod, and he told me that I should print out the mods' avatars and paste them to my fingers and put on a puppet show and send the video to iNet. The rest is history.
