• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have a video that I edited with iMovie. I want to put it on the internet, but it's about 7 times too large. What can I do to cut down the file size while keeping the length and quality about the same? I have iMovie, Quicktime (not pro), and Final Cut Express HD.

If you are not prepared to sacrifice quality then you will have to reduce the physical size in pixels to get a smaller file size.

If you were prepared to sacrifice some quality you could;

Lower the bit rate
Lower the audio quality
etc

(this is all from memory havent used imovie since getting final cut)

In the share video settings, choose expert settings, and that will give you loads of options where you can specify the dimensions of the video and set the quality, control the bitrate etc

there should be an option in share to export your video for the web.
