Iomega External CD ROM causes sleep crash

Your Mac's Specs
Gateway2000 P5-60. 66Mhz and 128 MB RAM.
Wondering if there was a fix for this. there are no real drivers for it anymore as I lost them and iomega doesnt seem to have them. The model is CDRW55292EXT. I hate having to unplug it every time I want my mac to sleep (yeah, I am that lazy :) ) being behind it and all.

Addition: When it sleeps it powers down normally just wont wake back up
