I could be wrong (maybe its just the programs I used) but converting video files on my mbp is soooo much faster than it was on windows! Files that took HOURS on windows I can convert in MINUTES!!!! I'm loving this!!!!!!

It depends on the program, too. For instance, ffmpeg is much faster than handbrake.

Handbrake just got an upgrade... MPEG4 conversions are 4x quicker than previously.

I found it very much faster. ffmpeg took about 30 mins. handbrake took 4 hours. This was transcoding 1GB VOB from an unprotected DVD to a MP4.

For some reason, ffmpegX was not converting the last 5 seconds. I've never seen that happen before. And I suspect it was becuase the person who made the DVD did not do so correctly. So I tried handbrake. And it worked. Took a hella long time though haha. And QT chokes and spits on the resulting MP4. Very hard to work with. But finally I was able to chop up the clip into smaller clips and export to another MP4 for importing into YouTube. WHEW.

Visual hub FTW!!!

handbrake is nice as well, but I prefer visual hub most of the time.
