Just bought my first Mac, a new Intel iMac, 2.4Ghz, 20", 1GB RAM.

It intermittently buzzes like crazy. Can't tie it down to particularly high levels of CPU usage.. but the strangest thing is, after a while if I gently rock the screen backwards and forwards, it seems to make it quieter.

Other times it's just not there at all.

How worried should I be about this problem - and if I decide that I'm not going to put up with it - what's the typical procedure from Apple? Replacement? Or do I have to go without my computer for days on end?

Sounds like a poorly seated or defective fan to me - I would take it back.

Definitely take it back. You didn't shell out major bucks to have a noisy computer.
