Hello!

This would be my first post as well as my first day of being a Mac user, something I'm glad I can finally say:D. So to get right to it, I deleted what I assumed was just a shortcut of Textedit from my desktop, but alas the Textedit icon in my dock is emblazoned with an imposing grey question mark. Needless to say, the program doest not start. From what I gathered on other forums, the two common remedies are reinstalling the operating system or being emailed the .app. Please let me know if you are able to help me out and thank you very much!

Did you empty your trashcan? If not, check in there to see if it is still on your computer. If it is in the trashcan, click on it and drag it back to the applications folder.

I'm an newbie as well, but I hope this helps you.

There is a Application called Pacifist that will allow you to get the textedit.app from your OSX Tiger Install DVD.

Yup, I emptied the trashcan. I've been a PC user up until now, so I just assumed it was a shortcut. Thanks for your post!
